GPC's Prison Ministry is a group of volunteers affiliated with the St. James’ Episcopal Church Prison Ministry. St. James’ Prison Ministry is a group of 16 local churches who work in cooperation with the chaplain at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, serving Montgomery County’s inmate population and their families. The chaplain is supported in part by these local churches, including GPC, through the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry.
Volunteers are involved in a variety of activities, including:
* Talking and praying with inmates
* Mentoring inmates before and after release
* Providing Bibles, religious literature, greeting cards, and sign-up sheets for religious services to inmates
* Helping in the library at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (part of the Montgomery County library system)
* Working with the Montgomery Works One-Stop office to help inmates with job searches
* Participating in a Jobs Partnership program which prepares inmates to be ready mentally and spiritually to get a job upon release
* Donating cards, magazines, reading glasses, etc.
* Buying and delivering gifts to inmates’ children at Christmas
* Coming up, GPC volunteers are providing transportation to the children of inmates so they can attend VBS this summer. Also, a Bible repair ministry is in the works for fall.
