Help GPC Feed the 5000 - Again!

Donations are needed February 21 through Easter Sunday

As Jesus fed hungry crowds long ago (see Matthew 14), our church community reaches out to feed the local needy. Last year, GPC members donated an amazingly generous 5500 boxes and cans of food during our Lenten food drive.

Please help us surpass this number this year!

Food collected will go to Gaithersburg HELP, our local food pantry, and The Lord’s Table, the interfaith soup kitchen housed in St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Gaithersburg.

You may place your contributions in one of several collection points at church: the Narthex, Lindsay Hall, the choir room or the Yellow Desk, located in the downstairs Sunday School area.

The most-needed items include rice, pasta, pasta sauce with meat and canned goods, such as fruits, vegetables, beef stew, chicken, tuna, kidney beans, black beans and tomato products. View Food List.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Praise and Thankfulness follow in the wake of an Extreme Makeover

On Sunday, September 21, 2008, Felicia Jackson and her four children and 10 nieces and nephews worshiped with GPC members and visitors.

The Jackson family are recent recipients of an extreme makeover. This summer the crew of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” teamed up with Classic Homes to give Felicia Jackson, a single mother who is struggling to raise 14 children between the ages of four and 18, a home makeover in nearby Poolesville, MD.

Praise Team during June 2008 gospel fest

Praise and thankfulness for God’s goodness and provision for Felicia Jackson and her family characterized June’s gospel fest.

In June, GPC hosted a community benefit gospel-fest concert to help the family. Area groups, including GPC’s Praise Team, participated in raising more than $19,000 (now up to $35,000) to help the family pay for unexpected expenses associated with a home makeover.

The family worshiped with GPC on the Sunday prior to the airing of their Extreme Makeover episode. The congregation, many of whom were present at the benefit concert, was glad for the opportunity to worship with Felicia Jackson, her children and members of a local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. The sorority helped organize the benefit concert and has been instrumental in supporting Felicia Jackson and her family for the last 4 years. Also present were representatives from Dwelling Place, Inc, who handle money matters for the trust fund.

Another special guest joined Sunday’s worship service. Joshua Sommerville, a gifted pianist and singer who performed during the June gospel-fest, shared his gifts with the congregation during Sunday’s service. Few members of the congregation left the service during the postlude, preferring to worship longer while listening to Sommerville share God’s goodness through song and melody.

Praise and thankfulness for God’s goodness and provision for Felicia Jackson and her family characterized June’s gospel fest. Sunday’s worship service echoed that spirit of thankfulness. After the service, many surrounded Felicia Jackson and those involved with helping her.

Sunday, September 28, ABC aired the two-part episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” where we can all could finaly watch as Ty and his crew built Felicia Jackson and her family a home in 7 days.

Praise God for his blessings to this family and to each of us!
