GPC's quilting group
This group is open to anyone interested in quilting at any level. We meet once a month at a member’s home and learn about quilting and each other!
Most of us were beginners when the group started about 10 years ago. We had Lauren Kingsland come and teach us quilting basics. We learned many things: how to use the rotary cutter, how to appliqué in 5 different techniques, how to square blocks, cut binding and piece it together; how to do French binding, make labels, sleeves for hanging and much more.
Now we each take classes, make a quilt, and then share what we have learned. If we get stuck, we call each other and work it out.
We have taught each other how to make many types of quilts and wall hangings:
- Christmas wall hangings, quilts and ornaments,
- 3D designs,
- Quilt-as-you-go quilts, trip-around-the-world quilts, blooming-9-patch quilts
- Quilts made with machine quilting techniques
- Crazy quilts, tee-shirt quilts, flannel quilts
- Quilted post cards, quilted jackets, potholders with coasters, table runners, gift bags,
- Paper-pieced quilts, storm-at-sea quilts, quilt-in-a-day quilts, talking quilts, kaleidoscope quilts, attic-window quilts;
- Wall hangings and baking potato bags.
- And the list goes on . . .
Some of our members have won ribbons at the Montgomery County Fair.
Anyone is welcome to join us. You can be a beginner and let us help you or you can be advanced and teach us!
We meet the second Thursday of each month in area homes. Join us!
