Outreach -- Volunteer Opportunities Beyond our Church Walls
Community Based Shelter

Community Based Shelter (CBS)  Our church will once again be providing dinners for the homeless shelter from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve.  There are many opportunities to serve in this most important Christmas gift.  The sign-up sheet will be in the Narthex throughout December.

 

Interfaith Works

Interfaith Works, an interfaith coalition providing advocacy and social services in Montgomery County, is in need of new Friends in Action mentors. All that is required is a caring heart, and a few hours a month for at least a year. Friends in Action mentoring teams (5-10 people) provide friendship, mentoring, advocacy, tutoring, transportation, and more.

SOME (So Others Might Eat)

SOME, So Others Might Eat, is an interfaith organization which takes a holistic approach to helping the poor and homeless in D.C. GPC has a group of volunteers that serve a hot breakfast to those in need on the first Tuesday of every month.

Dwelling Place

The Dwelling Place is a housing program that provides transitional housing and support services in Montgomery County, helping families transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Volunteer opportunities include donating, storing, and delivering furniture to Dwelling Place homes, and providing tutoring and babysitting at GPC for the children of Dwelling Place families while their parents attend monthly training classes and workshops.

Gaithersburg Help

Gaithersburg HELP, an all volunteer organization providing food, infant supplies, prescriptions, transportation, and support and referrals to the local community, is always looking for volunteers.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is an international faith-based organization that provides affordable housing for low-income families through volunteer labor from the community. GPC volunteers are involved in building these homes in the DC area a few times a year.

Lord's Table

The Lord’s Table is a Community Soup Kitchen in Gaithersburg, serving a hot meal to those in need Monday through Saturday, September through June. GPC has three volunteer groups led by Rutha Glover, Marge Leach, and Ed Travis.

Ed’s group is looking for mature youth to serve on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, from 3:15 - 4:45 p.m. Contact Ed Travis for more information. Read more . . .

 

Prison Ministry

GPC’s Prison Ministry is a group of volunteers affiliated with the St. James’ Episcopal Church Prison Ministry, a group of local churches serving Montgomery County’s inmate population and their families. Volunteers are involved in a wide variety of activities, including meeting and praying with inmates, distributing religious literature, mentoring and job parternship programs and more.
