VIPS MAY MEETING TO FEATURE MISSIONARIES
AND A POTLUCK LUNCH
May 3rd.  11:30 a.m. Lindsay Hall

Peter said to Jesus, “You have the words of eternal life!” But thousands of communities around the world – hundreds of millions of people – don’t yet have those words of eternal life in a language they can understand. Imagine if the only Bibles in Germantown were in German! 196 million people have no Christian Scripture in their language. Wycliffe is working hard to meet the need of those 196 million souls.

Our special guests at the May VIPS meeting are working to make the Bible available to everyone in the world. Fraser and Liz Bennett are not your usual missionaries. They are actually stationed in Dallas, Texas these days. Why Dallas? Well, that is the headquarters for SIL, (originally Summer Institute of Linguistics), the academic partner organization of Wycliffe Bible Translators, where Fraser recently accepted the post of Director of Academic Training. SIL has 25 training programs all over the world that teach its students how to analyze and learn languages, translate the Scriptures. Just imagine the difficulties of writing down a tonal language, in which the meaning of a word changes, by its pitch.

GPC is proud to be one of the many contributors to the Bennett’s mission. We are fortunate to have them in our area and able to fit VIPS into their busy schedule.

This meeting will include a potluck lunch, so pull out your cookbooks and set aside May 3, 2007 for VIPS. The time is 11:30, the place Lindsay Hall. For more information telephone Darla Shehadeh at 301-540-1074.
