Children’s Sunday School

If you are new to the church, please see someone at the Welcome Desk, just outside the Sanctuary, who can help you find the appropriate classes for your children.

10:00 AM: Children’s Bible Study – Rooms 30 & 31

We began in Genesis and are slowly and purposefully working through the Old Testament. Each Sunday we review, beginning with Creation, and add the next story. Then the children draw a picture of the part of the story that speaks to them and add it to our timeline. The emphasis of this class is two-fold: (1) the Bible is our family story and (2) it is important to know where we came from. For this reason we are reading through the Bible sequentially and focusing on the foundational stories of our Christian heritage.

11:15 AM: Our Worship Hour – Sanctuary/Rooms 11 & 14

Families begin the worship hour together in the Sanctuary. Following the Time with Children, those in Pre-K through 3rd Grade are invited to Room 14 to participate in Godly Play—an introduction to worship for young children where they hear and see scripture and, with the help of a storyteller, interpret the scripture verbally and tactilely. Students in the 4th and 5th Grades are invited to attend Scripture and Reflection—a reading of the same Scripture being read in the Sanctuary and time to reflect on its meaning for their lives. All children are returned to the Sanctuary by their teacher before the end of the worship service to be reunited with their families. Two workshops are held during the year: the Second Grade Bible workshop in the fall and the Children and Communion workshop in the Spring. These are held at the 11:15 hour and both workshops involve the children’s parents.

REGISTRATION: Children need to be registered for Sunday School at 10:00 and for Godly Play at 11:15.
